Golden Hour Adventure Session at Garrapata

Garrapata State Park has to be one of my very favorite locations in all of Big Sur. Only 10 minutes from Carmel-by-the-sea, it has everything to offer from rocky cliffs to huge mountains. Just a quick 4 minute drive down Highway One is Garrapata State Beach with totally different views of turquoise ocean and colorful wildflowers.

Garrapata State Park is a top spot for wedding and engagement photos due to its diverse and stunning landscapes. Here’s why:

1. Diverse Scenery

  • Coastal Views: Dramatic cliffs and panoramic ocean views provide a breathtaking backdrop.
  • Beach Access: Beautiful beaches with golden sand and unique rock formations are perfect for beach shots.
  • Wildflower Fields: Fields of wildflowers bloom in the spring, adding vibrant colors to photos.

2. Golden Hour Lighting

  • The park’s coastal location makes it ideal for capturing the soft, golden light during sunrise and sunset, enhancing the colors and textures of the landscape.

3. Secluded Spots

  • Garrapata is less crowded than some other Big Sur locations, providing more privacy for intimate and candid shots.

4. Easy Accessibility

  • Many scenic spots in Garrapata are easily accessible from Highway 1, making it convenient to reach various photo locations without extensive hiking.

5. Variety of Photo Opportunities

  • The park’s diverse landscapes allow for a variety of photos in one location, from dramatic cliffside shots to serene forest scenes.

6. Natural Beauty

  • The rugged beauty of Garrapata, with its mix of rocky coastlines, sandy beaches, and lush vegetation, provides a stunning backdrop that requires minimal additional props or settings.

7. Wildlife

  • The park is home to various wildlife, including sea otters, seals, and diverse bird species, which can add an element of surprise and delight to your photos.

Tips for a Successful Photo Session in Garrapata State Park

  1. Plan Your Timing: Aim for early morning or late afternoon to capture the best light and avoid the midday harsh sun.
  2. Scout Locations: Trust your photographer to visit the park beforehand to identify specific spots you want to include in your photo session.
  3. Be Prepared: Bring comfortable shoes for walking, as well as any permits required for professional photography in the park.
  4. Stay Safe: Listen to your photographer and be cautious near the cliffs and rocky areas, and always prioritize safety over getting the perfect shot.

Garrapata State Park’s natural beauty and variety of landscapes make it an excellent choice for memorable and stunning wedding photos.
